Tomorrow, we begin anew is a piece for a solo instrumentalist, vocalists, and conductor. Each vocalist is to be assigned a specific fragment of sound, whether consonant(s), vowel(s), or full syllable(s). These sounds will make up the words “tomorrow we begin anew.” Using only this assigned sound, the vocalist, upon cue, should explore the sound with pitch that is relative to the pianist. The goal for the vocalists is to keep their fragment of sound, but allow others’ fragments to have voice as well. The amount of vocalists performing at once is dependent on the conductor, but even when all vocalists are cued in, it is their job to leave space for each other.
